A History of Salisbury
In 1965, Helen Sproule started growing bedding plants in her garage as a hobby. She soon realized she had too many plants for her own use and began selling them to friends and neighbors. The demand for her quality plants grew quickly and three short years later, Fred Sproule left his full-time job to work with his wife in what became the Salisbury Greenhouse family business in Sherwood Park, Alberta.
A Family Run Business
Salisbury Greenhouse employed all of Helen & Fred’s six children who happily helped out in the business from a young age. Bob Sproule, the oldest son, came to work full-time at the greenhouse in 1975. Salisbury began operating year-round in the 1970’s and early 1980’s. By this time, Salisbury offered a full retail garden center, greenhouse, and landscaping design and build services.
Originally located in a rural area of the county, the expansion of Sherwood Park means Salisbury is now surrounded by city lots and acreages, with Edmonton city close by. Since the 1990’s, Salisbury Landscaping has become known for its exceptional quality, staff expertise, and innovative style of landscaping in the greater Edmonton area. As a third generation business, Salisbury Landscaping is a company known for setting industry standards.
